writing an email is hard when there's nothing to 'announce'
"big things coming, they cried in unison"
*looks at literally any screen I own*
WELL…THAT JUST HAPPENED!
I’m not gonna be talking about any of that stuff. I’m sure everyone has their own plans, essays, plots, formulae, etc brewing in response to this inevitable, avoidable and incredibly stupid result. But this email is actually just about me, and Sun Kin, and my little sound production business, so feel free to go back to doom scrolling if you’d prefer!
As a quick reminder, in August I finally put out the full length version of painting whales, my very first full-length instrumental ambient album (on Spotify and Apple Music and all the other streamers). I’ve heard it’s good for cleaning your house, taking a stress nap, or walking around on an overcast day. In case you’re worried about the lifespan of streaming media these days, there are also CDs and cassettes on my Bandcamp.

On the performance side of things, after Sun Kin’s big gig opening for Quivers’ record release tour in late September (which featured the official onstage debut of Small Jesters and “Black Toyota”), things have been quieter on the live front, primarily because I’ve been busy working on a new Sun Kin pop album (!) as well as corralling the last tracks for a remix album of Sunset World which features many of my talented artist and producer friends, and I’m sure a lot of familiar names to those who read this newsletter… In fact, because you read this far, here’s a sneak peek of one of my favorites.
On the production side, I’m working on some very cool projects right now that are still on the runway, and thus a bit hush-hush. But they include composition, engineering, production, sound design, instrumental & vocal performance, mixing and mastering. I’m still not totally sure what focus, if any, my production career will take, but I do love that it has me doing lots of different stuff. I’m certainly not bored!
It can sometimes be frustrating how long these projects can take, and a lot of it isn’t in my hands. But I have to say, as an artist and producer who promotes their stuff via social media, every bit of IRL collaboration I’m able to manage has been soothing my dopamine-cracked soul. I’ve been spending a bit too much time on TikTok, and it’s shown real results in people streaming my work, but I’m trying to bring more people over to the newsletter, because over here I’m not constantly ‘optimizing’ my work to land with evil robots. So thank you for reading. It means everything to me :)
See ya next time!
